This 1947 Triumph 1800 is a right-hand-drive roadster that was purchased by the seller in 2023. Finished in black with a color-keyed soft top over tan leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include driving lamps, aftermarket lights, wood interior trim, rear-hinged doors, fender-mounted side mirrors, and body-color steel wheels with hubcaps. This 1800 roadster is now offered with a Texas title in the seller’s name.
Purchased by Standard Motor Company in November 1944, Triumph—led by its managing director Sir John Black—commissioned the 1800 roadster as an attempt to compete with Jaguar, for which SMC had supplied engines before World War II. Due to postwar steel shortages, the car was constructed of aluminum panels formed using rubber press tools and mounted on ash wood framework, with steel used for the front fenders. This example underwent a refurbishment and is finished in black with a matching soft top. Details include driving lamps, fender-mounted side mirrors, trafficators, and rear-hinged doors. A trio of metal badges are mounted ahead of the grille, while aftermarket lights and turn signals are fitted under the bumpers. The trafficators do not work, and there is a rip in the soft top near where it attaches to the body.
Black-finished 16” steel wheels wear bright-finished hubcaps and were mounted with Excelsior tires under current ownership, with a matching spare located in the rear storage area. One of the wheel studs is missing. The car rides on a transverse leaf-sprung independent suspension up front and a live axle with semi-elliptic springs out back. Braking is handled by drums at all four corners.
The right-hand-drive cabin houses a split bench seat trimmed in tan leather with color-coordinated door panels as well as carpeting protected by black rubber mats. Wear is noted on the carpeting and seat upholstery. Two jump seats are fitted along with a fold-down center armrest, manual-crank windows, and a driver-side storage compartment.
The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a wood-trimmed dashboard housing a 100-mph Jaeger speedometer with an inset analog clock and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles, approximately 130 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 1.8-liter inline-four is equipped with a single carburetor and a PerTronix ignition system and is reported to have been refreshed. The battery was replaced in 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The Texas title carries a remark noting that a rebuilt/salvage title was previously issued in Illinois.
